Introduction to Chapter 1 Module

Our study of the computer programming begins with an brief review of its origin and progress to date.  Then you will study the features of JAVA, a fairly recent addition to the list of computer programming languages.  Finally, you will install NetBeans and create your first JAVA program, "HelloWorld.java".  By the way, don't worry if you are following instructions without much understanding.  Explanations will come later.  For now, just try to grasp the "Big Picture". 

The main objectives of this chapter are as follows:

• Install and become familiar with NetBeans
• Create and execute your first Java program
