What is Tech Prep Education?

Tech Prep offers all high school students, regardless of their skill level, economic status, or geographic location a first chance for achieving basic, academic technical work-place skills that prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow and increased opportunities for college education and training. The Tech Prep program teaches students skills in math, science, and communications with specific programs of study.

How to Obtain College Credit?

College credit will be held in escrow at Southwest Texas Junior College for 24 months after the date of the student's high school graduation. (These student will need to contact the Tech Prep office prior to college registration to review advance placement requirements.) The student will receive college credit from SWTJC after the following is completed:

bulletStudent must take a coherent sequence of courses (3 or more Tech Prep Courses) in high school.
bulletThe student must have an official high school transcript forwarded to SWTJC.  The high school course must be noted with the letter "A" and a grade of 80 by the course in order to become eligible for college credit.
bulletThe student must complete a minimum of 6 semester hours at SWTJC.
